NABS has developed a State Liaison Program. There are 8 groups, and each group is served by a NABS board member. State Liaisons are here to advise you on building and strengthening your division.

If you request a rep, we'll do our best to provide a representative for your division's next event.

We encourage you to get in touch with us if you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding your state, region or NABS as a whole. We're always open to new ideas and suggestions.

##Meet the 2020-21 National Student Board

###President: Trisha Kulkarni

Trisha is humbled and honored to serve as the President of the National Association of Blind Students! She is originally from Dayton, Ohio and is currently a junior at Stanford University studying computer science. This summer, Trisha is very excited to have had the opportunity to intern at the Samsung Strategy and Innovation Center, working on product management and design. Whether it is through technology or creative writing, Trisha is passionate about creating new pathways for impact. Outside of NABS and school, you can find her in the gym, taking a deep dive into her Spotify recommendations, or getting boba with friends. Trisha is inspired daily by the power of our collective knowledge in this organization, and she welcomes any student or ally to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas about the work that we do. Together, let’s build a brighter future for blind students everywhere!

Kenia Flores serves as 1st Vice President of the National Association of Blind Students. She calls the wonderful state of North Carolina home. Kenia recently graduated from Furman University where she majored in Politics and International Affairs. Kenia plans to go to law school in the near future; however, she is currently a student at the Louisiana Center for the Blind where she is pursuing blindness training. Kenia is committed to achieving equality, opportunity, and security for our nation's blind students, and she is looking forward to the work we will accomplish in the year to come. ###2nd Vice President: Justin Salisbury

Justin works as Coordinator of Educational Programs at Associated Services for the Blind, Inc., in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is currently preparing for a doctoral program in education in pursuit of his dream of teaching at the university level. He has worked as a cane travel instructor, a legislative aide to a state senator, an economic research fellow, and other education-related positions. He holds a Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance with a concentration in Rehabilitation Teaching for the Blind from Louisiana Tech University, as well as Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mathematics and Economics from East Carolina University. He devotes much time to advocating for social justice through policy and practice, and he contributes articles to the Braille Monitor, Future Reflections, and the Journal of Blindness Innovation and Research. ###Secretary: Mausam Mehta

Mausam is a junior at the University of Virginia, studying commerce with concentrations in information technology and entrepreneurship. She grew up in a middle-of-nowhere town in Virginia, which has contributed to her thirst for exploring new places. In her free time, she can be found absorbed in a high-stakes thriller, or breathing the air of the great outdoors. ###Treasurer: Elizabeth Rouse

Elizabeth Rouse is both the current NABS treasurer and a recent graduate of Central College, a division 3 university in Pella, Iowa. During her four years at Central, Elizabeth studied English and Theatre, simultaneously participating in and out of the classroom in many activities, including Washington Seminar 2017, 2019, and 2020. Now that she has her degree, Elizabeth is focused on obtaining structured discovery training at one of the National Federation of the Blind’s training centers, hoping to start in September of 2020. Elizabeth is passionate about all things money-making and self-advocating as they pertain to NABS! ###Board Member 1: Nina Marranca

Nina is working toward her undergraduate degree in psychology and criminal justice, with a concentration in family and juvenile justice, with the goal of obtaining a PHD in clinical psychology. She currently lives and goes to school in upstate New York with her guide dog Viggo trotting by her side. Nina has an affinity for murder mystery novels, coffee, chocolate, and writing. Since her introduction to the NFB in late 2018, Nina has found her passion for advocating on behalf of all blind students. ###Board Member 2: Johna Wright

Johna is a fun-loving, charismatic and enthusiastic person who loves traveling, dogs and food. She is a Fulbright Scholar and first-year Master’s student at Tampere University in Tampere, Finland studying Comparative Social Policy and Welfare. In addition to her coursework, Johna is an intern at Mobility International USA, where she works to encourage students with disabilities to pursue international exchange opportunities. Also, Johna is the proud founder and director of ABLE Mercer, a first-of-its-kind university program that focuses on getting students with disabilities involved in grassroots and national advocacy efforts. During her second year as a NABS board member, Johna hopes to connect with even more amazing Federationists and ignite a passion for advocacy in the younger students who will serve as leaders in the future. Robert is a graduate student at Western Michigan University. He is in the Rehabilitation Counseling and Teaching dual master’s program and intends on becoming a rehabilitation counseling graduate professor. He currently serves as the Vice President of the Michigan Association of Blind Students and as a board member of the National Federation of the Blind of Michigan. Monica is a third year law student at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, attending classes evenings and weekends in Minneapolis Minnesota. During the day, she is a Senior Accessibility Specialist at Thomson Reuters, working on the Legal team. Raised in Vancouver, Monica enjoys travel and getting to know people from all walks of life. She is pursuing a career in corporate diversity and inclusion. Diversity and inclusion is not just a catchphrase; diversity is the secret sauce that makes people and organizations flourish. Moreover, lacking inclusivity, diversity cannot take hold.
